Santu is a young gorilla at Zoo Krefeld who was born in 2021 to Muna, a 32-year-old female gorilla. His father is Kidogo, the silverback leader of the family at the zoo. Santu is the fourth son, with half-brothers Tambo, Pepe, and Babotto. His birth was notably the first-ever gorilla birth captured on video at Zoo Krefeld. The name “Santu” means “sacred” in Lingala, an African language, reflecting his special significance.
From birth, Santu was closely cared for by his mother Muna and has grown into a playful and energetic young gorilla. He has formed a strong bond with his half-brother Babotto, becoming inseparable playmates.
