Riang the Orangutan in Pictures

Riang is a female Sumatran orangutan born on January 4, 2026, to her mother, Tao, at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Her name means “cheerful” in Indonesian, reflecting the joy her birth brings to the critically endangered species’ conservation efforts. She is currently healthy and can often be seen bonding with her mother and being observed by her curious older sister, Mulia, in the zoo’s primate habitat.
