Makongo the Gorilla in Pictures

The birth of Makongo, a male Western lowland gorilla, at Gaia Zoo in the Netherlands on April 9, 2024, was a significant event, marking the zoo’s first gorilla birth in nearly a decade. Sadly, his mother, Tamidol, passed away later that year due to health complications. Following this loss, Makongo was successfully fostered by Dalila, another female gorilla in the troop, with close support from the zoo staff. Makongo is thriving and is an important part of the conservation efforts at Gaia Zoo.
