Kumbi is a young male gorilla born in July 2022 at Howletts Wild Animal Park. He is the 150th gorilla born at the park, which is part of The Howletts Wild Animal Trust (THWAT), the world’s most successful breeder of western lowland gorillas. Kumbi has been noted for forging a strong bond with his family and keepers and lives in an enclosure where gorillas are free to choose when and where to be seen. His father is Ebeki, the resident silverback who enjoys playing with Kumbi. The Aspinall Foundation, associated with the park, hopes that Kumbi will one day be rewilded in protected wilderness areas such as the Batéké Plateau in Gabon, continuing a long-term conservation and rewilding effort. Howletts prides itself on exceptional care, including a diverse diet for the gorillas and a commitment to their well-being and conservation.
