In October 2022, a western lowland gorilla named Kaius was born at Mogo Wildlife Park in Australia. Shortly after birth, he faced life-threatening challenges like sepsis pneumonia and had to be hand-raised for several months by zoo director Chad Staples when his mother, Kipensi, couldn’t care for him. Following his recovery and critical human support, Kaius was successfully adopted by a surrogate gorilla mother, G-Anne, and was reintegrated into his family group, making his story a remarkable tale of survival and dedicated care.
