A six‑year‑old female western lowland gorilla born and raised at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.
Vuko arrived on the 8th of January, 2020, the proud daughter of Viringika and Kouillou, and has never left the familiar grounds of Port Lympne. From her first weeks, caretakers noticed the soft, inquisitive nature that has become her hallmark. Over the years she has explored every corner of her enclosure, showing a gentle curiosity that endears her to visitors and staff alike.
As a western lowland gorilla, Vuko shares a species that faces a dire future in the wild. Even so, her life in captivity offers a living reminder of the importance of conservation efforts. Every day she continues to thrive under attentive care, her health and wellbeing monitored closely.
Today, six years old, she remains a central figure in the park’s gorilla community. Her presence enriches the educational experience for guests and reinforces the message that protecting these magnificent animals is urgent and achievable.
The staff at Port Lympne cherish the opportunity to observe her growth and behavior, documenting each milestone for both scientific study and public outreach. Her story is a testament to the success of responsible captive breeding programs.
Through daily interactions, Vuko helps convey the delicate balance of nature and the role humans play in safeguarding endangered species.
