A newborn western lowland gorilla named Thara, born at Zoosafari di Fasano in August 2025.
On a warm August day in 2025, a tiny gorilla entered the world at Zoosafari di Fasano, the daughter of Tamani and Nasibu. Her mother, Tamani, has been a steady presence, guiding the infant through its earliest weeks. Though just weeks old, she already carries the striking features of her Western Lowland Gorilla lineage, a subspecies listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.
At the moment, Thara remains a newborn, her age recorded as zero years. All her early milestones have unfolded within the same facility, where keepers monitor her growth with careful attention. The zoo’s environment provides enrichment and social opportunities essential for a captive-born gorilla.
Her presence adds a fresh thread to the conservation tapestry woven by Zoosafari di Fasano. Each breath she takes contributes to the fragile hope for her species, whose numbers in the wild have dwindled dramatically. The staff looks forward to watching her develop alongside her family, hopeful that she will thrive under their care.
