Tani

Tani was born at the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Franceville on 18 June 1996, the daughter of Typhen and Djoutou. She spent her first eighteen years at the research facility where she came into the world.

In August 2014, she moved to Projet Gorille Fernan-Vaz, where she has lived for nearly a decade. The transfer marked a new chapter for this captive-born female, who had known only one home for the majority of her life.

Now approaching her third decade, Tani represents her critically endangered subspecies within Gabon’s conservation efforts. Her species, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, continues to face mounting pressure from habitat loss and human encroachment across Central and West Africa.
