About Tandu

Tandu was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on April 27, 2014. Born on October 12, 2013, he lived for just six months at Frankfurt Zoo.

Born at Frankfurt Zoo as a captive-born gorilla, he was the offspring of mother Shira and father Viatu. His brief life ended due to shigella, a bacterial infection that can be particularly dangerous for young primates.

Tandu spent his entire short life at Frankfurt Zoo, where he was born and where he passed away. His early death highlights the vulnerability of infant gorillas, even in carefully managed zoo environments.
