About Tamani

On 13 March 1993, a new member of the western lowland gorilla family entered the world at Apenheul Primate Park. She grew up with her mother, Mintha, and father, Bongo, surrounded by the familiar sights of a Dutch primate sanctuary.
After nearly eight years, a change of scenery took her to the Royal Rotterdam Zoological Gardens on 12 December 2000. Over the next twenty‑three years, she adapted to new routines and a larger herd, becoming a familiar face to visitors and keepers alike.
On 11 March 2024, the gorilla began a new chapter at Zoosafari di Fasano, where she now enjoys a spacious enclosure and a dedicated care team.
At 33 years old, she is a seasoned resident of her current home, and her subspecies, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, remains classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.
She continues to thrive, a testament to the commitment of the institutions that have housed her over the decades.
