About Samba

Samba was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on March 3, 2007. She lived to 46 years of age.

Born in Africa in 1961, she was wild-caught rather than born in captivity. Her parents were both wild gorillas.

Her life in captivity began with circus Knie before she moved to Longleat Safari and Adventure Park in October 1986. Over the following years, she moved between Longleat and Bristol Zoo Gardens multiple times, with transfers occurring in 1991, 1992, and 1993. She spent her final years at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, where she died in 2007.
