About Rafa
Rafa is a male Western Lowland Gorilla who has been released back to the wild. Born on June 4, 2026, at Africa with wild parents.
His rehabilitation began in June 2017 at Le Parc de la L k di. From there, he moved to the Gorilla Protection Project Bat k Plateau in October 2018, where he continued his preparation for life in the wild.
After his time at the Gorilla Protection Project, Rafa achieved what every orphaned gorilla hopes for – release back to his natural habitat. His successful return to the wild represents the ultimate goal of gorilla rehabilitation programs.
