About Nyango

Nyango was a female Cross River Gorilla who died on November 4, 2016. Born in the wild in Nigeria on June 4, 1991, she lived to be 25 years old.

Both her parents were wild gorillas. She arrived at Limbe Wildlife Centre on March 23, 1994, when she was nearly three years old.

She spent over two decades at Limbe Wildlife Centre, from 1994 until her death in 2016. Her death was caused by heart failure.

As a Cross River Gorilla, Nyango belonged to one of the world’s most endangered gorilla subspecies. Her long life in care contributed valuable knowledge to conservation efforts for her critically threatened species.
