Nille

Nille was a female Western Lowland Gorilla born on 1 January 1964 in Cameroon. She was caught in the wild as an infant and had no captive parents.

Her zoo career began at Aalborg Zoo. On 3 January 1985 she was moved to Copenhagen Zoo, where she stayed until 24 November 1998. That same day she transferred to Givskud Zoo and lived there for the remainder of her life.

In October 2015 she succumbed to severe intestinal issues at Givskud Zoo, passing away on 14 October 2015 at the age of 51 years.

Throughout her time in European collections she was a calm presence in the group, helping caretakers understand the social dynamics of her subspecies.
