About Nico

Nico was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on January 7, 2018. He lived to 56 years of age.

Born in Africa in 1962, he was wild-caught rather than born in captivity. Both his parents were wild gorillas.

His life in zoos began at Zoo Hannover, followed by time with Circus Knie. In October 1986, he arrived at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, where he would spend most of his remaining years. A brief transfer took him to Bristol Zoo Gardens from November 1991 to March 1992, but he returned to Longleat shortly after. He spent his final 26 years at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, where he died in 2018.
