A 13‑year‑old western lowland gorilla who left her birth home in the Netherlands for Warsaw in 2025.
NʼHasa entered the world on 13 June 2013 at Burgers’ Zoo, a captive‑born female of the critically endangered western lowland subspecies. She was raised by her mother, Nʼgayla, and her father, Bauwi, in a group that offered her the familiar social environment she needed.
The years that followed were marked by routine enrichment and careful health monitoring, ensuring she remained robust as she grew into a mature adult. Her life in the Netherlands continued until late May 2025, when she made a significant transition.
On 13 May 2025, the gorilla crossed the border to Zoo Warsawa, joining a new community and continuing her life under the care of dedicated keepers. At 13 years old, she represents a living link to the dwindling populations of her species in the wild.
Beyond the numbers, NʼHasa has become a familiar face for visitors and a testament to the importance of captive breeding programs aimed at preserving the western lowland gorilla.
