About Mwambe

Mwambe is a female Western Lowland Gorilla who went missing in the wild and is presumed deceased. Born on August 28, 2006, at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, she was captive-born to parents Kishi and Djala.

She spent her early years at Port Lympne until June 2013, when she was transferred to the Gorilla Protection Project at Batéké Plateau. This move was part of a reintroduction program preparing her for life in the wild.

In June 2014, at nearly eight years old, she was released into the forests of South East Gabon. Her transition to wild life was monitored until August 2014, but by October 2018, she was officially listed as missing. Her current status and whereabouts remain unknown.
