About Muyisa (Ihirwe)

Muyisa (Ihirwe) is a female Eastern Lowland (Grauer’s) Gorilla born on June 3, 2026, at Congo. She is captive-born with both parents from the wild.

Her early life involved transfers between conservation facilities. Records show she moved from an unknown location in August 2011 to Gorilla Doctors Kinigi on August 7, 2011, where she spent nearly three years until May 2014.

Since May 19, 2014, she has called Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education home. Her care represents the collaborative efforts of multiple conservation organizations working to protect Eastern Lowland Gorillas.

As a Grauer’s Gorilla, she belongs to the world’s largest gorilla subspecies, though they face critical threats in their native Democratic Republic of Congo. Her parents’ wild origins connect her directly to the forests these magnificent apes call home.
