Mountain Gorilla at Senkwekwe Orphan Mountain Gorilla Center, born 2026.
Mountain gorillas represent one of the world’s most endangered subspecies, with Musuka among the captive-born members of this critically threatened population. Born on 3 June 2026 in Congo to mother Mahisho and a wild father, she entered the world as part of conservation efforts for Gorilla beringei beringei.
Just nine days after birth, she was transferred to Senkwekwe Orphan Mountain Gorilla Center, where she has remained since 12 June 2017. The facility specializes in caring for orphaned mountain gorillas, providing crucial support for young apes separated from their natal groups.
Her mixed heritage — captive-born mother and wild father — represents the complex breeding dynamics within mountain gorilla conservation programs. The IUCN lists her subspecies as Endangered, making each birth significant for the long-term survival of the population. She continues to grow and develop under the specialized care that Senkwekwe provides for mountain gorilla orphans.
