About Mumba

Mumba was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on August 1, 2014. She lived to 27 years of age.

Born at Howletts Wild Animal Park on July 27, 1987, she was captive-born to parents Shumba and Kijo.

Her life took her between Howletts Wild Animal Park and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park multiple times before joining the Gorilla Protection Project at Bat k Plateau in 2013. On June 26, 2014, she was released into Bat k Plateau National Park.

Tragically, her return to the wild was cut short. She died after a fight with a wild silverback just over a month after her release.
