Moja, a 21‑year‑old western lowland gorilla, lives at Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabrceno after being born in Prague
Born on 13 December 2004 at Zoo Praha, she entered the world as a captive‑born western lowland gorilla. Her mother Kijivu and father Richard watched over her early days, providing the close family bonds that keepers cherish in managed care.
At just under seven years old, she made the move to Spain on 29 November 2011, joining the troop at Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabrceno. The transfer marked her second zoo experience and the start of a long residence that continues today.
Now 21, she remains a vital presence in the park’s gorilla group. Her subspecies, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, holds a Critically Endangered status on the IUCN Red List, underscoring the importance of each well‑cared‑for individual in conservation efforts.
