Massa

Massa was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on January 1st, 2020. He lived for 48 years after being wild-caught as an infant from Africa in 1971.

Both his parents were wild gorillas. He arrived at Zoo Krefeld in Germany on April 29th, 1975, when he was nearly four years old.

Massa spent 45 years at Zoo Krefeld, from 1975 until his death. Tragically, he died in a fire that broke out in the gorilla enclosure on New Year’s Day 2020.
