Ma Yah

Ma Yah was a Western Lowland Gorilla born on 18 September 2009 at Givskud Zoo. She was captive‑born to mother Minnie and father Samson.

Her entire brief life unfolded within the same facility, where keepers observed her daily, providing enrichment and veterinary care as part of the zoo’s breeding program.

On 29 May 2012, at just under two and a half years old, she passed away at Givskud Zoo. A post‑mortem identified a high amount of coli‑form bacteria in her blood as the cause of death.

Staff who cared for her remember her gentle demeanor and the devoted attention she received throughout her time at the zoo.
