About Lumba

Lumba was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died tragically young on August 27, 2007. Born on August 19, 2006, she lived for just over one year.

Born at Howletts Wild Animal Park to parents Bandi and Kishum, she was captive-born. Shortly after birth, she was transferred to Espace Zoologique St Martin la Plaine in France, where she spent her brief life.

Her early death represents the harsh reality that infant mortality can affect gorillas in captivity, despite the best care efforts. She died at Espace Zoologique St Martin la Plaine, though the exact cause remains undocumented.
