Luena

Luena was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on September 18, 2006. She lived to 9 years and 8 months of age.

Born on Christmas Day 1996 at Münchener Tierpark Hellabrunn, she was captive-born to parents Neema and Roututu.

Her life took her through three different facilities. She spent her first few months at her birth zoo before transferring to Zoologisch-botanischer Garten Wilhelma in March 1997. In December 2000, she moved to Royal Rotterdam Zoological Gardens, where she would spend her final years.

Luena died at Royal Rotterdam Zoological Gardens due to complications during birth. Her death marked the end of a young life that spanned nearly a decade across multiple European zoos.
