Eastern Lowland (Grauer's) Gorilla at Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education, born 2026.
Lubutu Uhuru is a male Eastern Lowland (Grauer’s) Gorilla living at Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education. Born in Congo on June 4, 2006, his parents were wild gorillas.
As an infant, he received care at Gorilla Doctors Goma from March 21 to April 15, 2011, before moving to his current home at Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education on April 15, 2011. This transfer reflects the collaborative conservation network working to protect endangered gorillas.
The Eastern Lowland Gorilla faces severe threats in its native habitat across the Democratic Republic of Congo. His presence at the facility contributes to conservation efforts for Grauer’s Gorillas, one of the most endangered great ape subspecies. Through his care, visitors and researchers can better understand these magnificent primates and the challenges they face in the wild.
