A 13‑year‑old male western lowland gorilla, born in Moscow and now thriving at Kazan Zoo.
A lively youngster arrived at the Moscow Zoological Gardens on 5 February 2013, the son of Kira and Vizuri. His early days were spent under the watchful eye of his mother, a typical start for a captive‑born western lowland gorilla.
He grew steadily, reaching adolescence within the same troop. By the time he turned eight, keepers noted his strong build and the confidence that would later define his role in the group. His subspecies, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, remains listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, underscoring the importance of each animal in managed care.
On 3 December 2021 he embarked on his first relocation, moving to the Kazan Zoological & Botanical Garden. Now 13 years old, he enjoys a spacious exhibit at Kazan, where his presence adds both genetic and educational value to the conservation program.
