Western Lowland Gorilla female at Mogo Zoo, born 9 Aug 1979 in Apenheul.
Kriba was born on 9 August 1979 at Apenheul Primate Park in the Netherlands. She is a Western Lowland Gorilla and a captive‑born animal, carrying the genetics of her parents, Mouila and Bongo, who were part of the European breeding programme.
She spent the first 17 years of her life at Apenheul before being transferred to Taronga Zoo in Sydney on 6 December 1996. At Taronga she lived for almost 17 years, contributing to the social structure of the troop.
On 20 August 2013 she moved to Mogo Zoo, where she continues to thrive. Staff appreciate her calm presence, and visitors often watch her interact with the other gorillas in the enclosure.
At more than four decades old, Kriba remains healthy and active, a living link to the species’ captive breeding history.
