Katie

Katie is a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on December 16, 2009. She lived to 36 years of age.

Born in Cameroon on June 4, 1973, she was captive-born with both parents from the wild.

Her life took her across multiple facilities. She began at Weybridge in 1973, then moved to San Diego Zoo Safari Park in 1984, followed by San Diego Zoo in 1985, and finally North Carolina Zoological Park in 1989. She spent her final twenty years at North Carolina Zoological Park, where she was euthanized due to cancer in the reproductive tract.
