About Kangu

Kangu was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who has since passed away. Born on August 28, 1999, he was captive-born at Howletts Wild Animal Park to parents Sangha and Kifu.

His life took him across multiple locations dedicated to gorilla conservation. He spent his early years at Howletts Wild Animal Park until July 2010, when he transferred to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. There he lived for seven years before making his final move in October 2017 to the Gorilla Protection Project Lésio-Louna.

The Gorilla Protection Project represented an important step in his conservation story, as these facilities work directly with wild gorilla populations in their native habitat. His transfer there in 2017 marked the beginning of his final chapter, though the exact details of his passing remain unrecorded in the studbook.
