A 39‑year‑old western lowland gorilla who spent her early years at London Zoo before moving to Belfast.
From the moment she opened her eyes on 1 June 1987, Kamili has carried the quiet strength of her subspecies. Raised under the watchful eyes of her mother Zaire and father Kumba II, she spent her first six years at the Zoological Society of London, learning to navigate a complex social environment. On 5 October 1993, she transferred to Belfast Zoological Gardens, where she has remained ever since, living out her days in a familiar enclosure and forming bonds with her troop. Today, at 39 years old, she continues to be a steady presence for visitors and staff alike, embodying the resilience of western lowland gorillas.
