A 42‑year‑old male western lowland gorilla born in 1983, now living at Bioparc Valencia.
Born in the greenhouse garden of Wilhelma in 1983, he began life under the careful care of his mother Undi and father Banjo. The young gorilla spent his first few years in the familiar surroundings of his birthplace before a move to Heidelberg in 1987, where he continued to grow and learn.
A decade later, in 1999, he entered Blackpool Zoo, adding a new chapter to his life in a different environment. Eleven years later, he joined Bioparc Valencia, where he remains today, a constant presence in the enclosure.
At 42, he is still alive, a living testament to the success of captive breeding programs for the critically endangered western lowland gorilla. His life story reflects the dedication of the caretakers who have guided him through each transition.
Each transfer marked a new opportunity for enrichment and social interaction, and his continued well‑being underlines the importance of long‑term conservation efforts.
