About Jah

On 2 July 2002, a male baby gorilla arrived at Howletts Wild Animal Park, the offspring of Dihi and Kijo. Raised among siblings, he grew into a robust adult, keeping his family close as the youngest of the troop.

At just over ten years old, he crossed the English Channel on 12 February 2013, joining Ouwehands Dierenpark. The move brought a familiar face to a new enclosure, where he quickly adapted to the Dutch climate and the rhythms of a different keeper team.

Today, at 24 years of age, he remains a cornerstone of the park’s primate collection. His subspecies, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, faces a precarious future in the wild, making his presence here a quiet reminder of conservation challenges.
