About Idi Amin

Idi Amin was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on March 7, 2012. He lived to 38 years of age.

Born in Africa on June 4, 1973, he was wild-caught as an infant. His parents were both wild gorillas.

He spent his captive life at Fundação Zoo-Botânica de Belo Horizonte in Brazil, arriving there on January 15, 1975, when he was less than two years old. He remained at this facility for over 37 years until his death from renal failure and osteoarthritis.
