Hyasmina

Hyasmina was a female Western Lowland Gorilla, born in 1978 in Cameroon. She entered captivity directly from the wild, with both parents recorded simply as “Wild.”

After many years of care, she spent her final months at the Espace Zoologique St. Martin La Plaine in France. In 2024 she suffered a stroke, which led to her passing.

Her life spanned 46 years, from 1978 to 2024. Though her early movements are not documented, zoo records confirm her presence there until her death. Hyasmina’s story highlights the complexities of caring for wild‑born gorillas in captivity and the importance of vigilant health monitoring.
