About Gorilong

Gorilong was a male Western Lowland Gorilla captured from the wild in Africa. He entered zoo life as a juvenile, first appearing in the records of Osnabrück Zoo on 15 December 1975.

He spent almost nine years at Osnabrück before being moved to Seoul Grand Park Zoo on 20 March 1984. There he lived out the remainder of his life, becoming a familiar presence to visitors and staff.

Both of his parents were wild‑born, so he carried no captive‑born lineage. The studbook confirms his birth date as 1 January 1973 and records his death on 17 February 2011 at Seoul Grand Park Zoo. He reached 38 years of age; the cause of death was not recorded.
