Genki

Genki is a female Western Lowland Gorilla born at Kyoto City Zoo on 24 June 1986, making her 38 years old. Her parents are Hiromi (mother) and Makk (father).

She spent the first eleven years of her life at Kyoto City Zoo before being transferred to Ueno Zoological Gardens on 19 March 1997. After a little over two years at Ueno, she returned to her birthplace on 29 November 1999 and has remained there ever since.

At Kyoto City Zoo she is a long‑standing member of the gorilla group, contributing to the social dynamics and helping caretakers monitor the health and behavior of the troop. Her longevity provides valuable insights into the care of captive Western Lowland Gorillas.

The zoo continues to offer enriched environments and specialized nutrition to support her well‑being, aiming to maintain a high quality of life throughout her senior years.
