Gaidi

Gaidi is a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on August 26, 2004. He lived to 34 years of age.

Born in Africa on June 4, 1970, he was wild-caught as an infant. His parents were both wild gorillas.

Gaidi’s life in captivity began at Gelsenkirchen Zoo in August 1972, when he was just two years old. He moved to Zoologisch-botanischer Garten Wilhelma in March 1973, where he spent over twelve years. In November 1985, he transferred to Zoo Leipzig, remaining there for thirteen years until November 1998. His final years were spent at Moscow Zoological Gardens, where he lived from 1998 until his death in 2004.
