FRA-17-01

FRA-17-01 was a Western Lowland Gorilla who died tragically young at Frankfurt Zoo. Born on March 1, 2017, this infant survived only two days before passing away on March 3, 2017.

Born to parents Dian and Viatu at Frankfurt Zoo, this captive-born gorilla’s brief life represents the challenges faced in gorilla breeding programs. The loss of any gorilla infant is significant for conservation efforts, as Western Lowland Gorillas remain a critically important subspecies.

Despite living for such a short time, every birth in captive gorilla populations contributes valuable knowledge to breeding programs working to maintain genetic diversity and support wild populations.
