About Founa

Founa was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who lived for 38 years. Born in the wild in Gabon on June 4, 1971, she was wild-caught and brought into captivity as an infant.

Both her parents were wild gorillas. She spent nearly four decades at Howletts Wild Animal Park, arriving there on August 26, 1972, when she was just over a year old.

Founa died at Howletts Wild Animal Park on March 1, 2010. Her long life in captivity spanned almost 38 years at the same facility, where she lived from infancy through her final years.
