DUR-13-01

DUR-13-01 was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on April 14, 2013. She lived only six days after her birth on April 8, 2013.

Born at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, she was captive-born to parents Bahasha and Badongo. Her brief life ended at the same facility where she was born.

The cause of death was premature birth, which led to an underdeveloped jaw and inability to suckle. This tragic case highlights the challenges faced by critically endangered Western Lowland Gorillas, even in carefully managed conservation programs.
