Dorle

Dorle was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who lived for 38 years before her death on December 9, 2009. Born captive at Frankfurt Zoo on May 27, 1971, she was the daughter of Makulla and Matze.

Her life took her across multiple European zoos. She spent her early years at Frankfurt Zoo until 1976, then moved to Zoo Hannover where she lived for nearly a decade. Brief stays at Allwetterzoo Münster and Münchener Tierpark Hellabrunn followed, before she settled at Zoo Duisburg for fourteen years.

In 2007, she transferred to Bioparc Valencia, where she spent her final two years. She died there in December 2009, having contributed to Western Lowland Gorilla conservation efforts throughout her decades in captivity.
