Djala

Djala is a male Western Lowland Gorilla who is deceased. He lived to 32 years of age.

Born in the wild in Congo in June 1982. Both parents were wild gorillas.

His life in captivity began at Howletts Wild Animal Park in 1984, where he spent nearly a decade before transferring to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in 1993. He moved between these two facilities several times over the years. In 2013, he was transferred to the Gorilla Protection Project at Bat k Plateau, and in 2014 he was released into the wild in South East Gabon. He died in August 2014, just over a month after his release.
