Digit

Digit is a male Western Lowland Gorilla who was born on 1 January 1994. His parents were wild gorillas, and he spent his earliest months in the wild before being taken into captivity.

On 17 October 1996 he was seized at Dubai Airport and transferred to the Dubai Zoo. He lived there for more than two decades, becoming a familiar presence for visitors.

In 2017 the zoo’s collection moved to the newly opened Dubai Safari Park, and Digit made the same transition. He now lives in the park’s gorilla habitat, where he is observed by guests and staff alike.

At more than thirty years old, Digit remains a healthy representative of his subspecies.
