Buu, a 29‑year‑old western lowland gorilla, thrives at Bioparc Fuengirola after her Chessington birth.
A captive‑born western lowland gorilla, she entered the world on 30 November 1996 at Chessington World of Adventures & Zoo. Her mother, Shani, and father, Kumba II, were present for her first moments, ensuring a strong family start.
After more than two decades at her birth facility, a move on 4 December 2018 brought her to Bioparc Fuengirola, where she now spends her days. The transfer marked the second zoo change in her life, aligning her with a new troop and environment.
At 29 years old, she carries the weight of her critically endangered subspecies, Gorilla gorilla gorilla, a reminder of the fragile future of wild populations. Keepers monitor her health and behavior closely, valuing the continuity she provides within the managed care program.
