About Atanga
Atanga was a male Western Lowland Gorilla who died on June 6, 2009. He lived to 14 years of age.
Born at Espace Zoologique St. Martin la Plaine on February 11, 1995, he was captive-born to parents Hyasmina and TamTam. His early years were spent at his birth zoo until May 2, 2002.
Atanga then moved to Zoo de la Boissiere du Dor, where he lived for over six years. In November 2008, he returned to Espace Zoologique St. Martin la Plaine.
He died at his birth zoo from a lung infection, having completed a full circle back to where his life began.
