Akili

Born in Frankfurt Zoo on 16 October 1994, this male western lowland gorilla grew under the care of his mother Rebecca and father Matze. His early years were spent in his birthplace until March 2000, when he was transferred to Hodenhagen Serengeti Park. There, he remained for five and a half years, developing strong bonds with the troop. In September 2005 he arrived at Natura Artis Magistra, where he has stayed ever since. At 31 years old, he continues to thrive in a spacious enclosure designed to mimic his natural habitat. His presence reminds visitors of the fragility of the western lowland gorilla population, listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.
