Akiba

Akiba was a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on February 1, 2021. She lived to 21 years of age.

Born in Cameroon on January 1, 2000, she was captive-born to wild parents. Her early life began in her native country before she was transferred to the Limbe Wildlife Centre in July 2001.

She spent nearly two decades at Limbe Wildlife Centre, from July 2001 until her death in February 2021. Her death was attributed to gastro issues. Throughout her life, she contributed to conservation efforts for her critically endangered subspecies.
