Africa †

Africa † is a female Western Lowland Gorilla who died on June 4, 1991. Born in the wild in Gabon on June 4, 1972, she was wild-caught rather than born in captivity.

Both her parents were wild gorillas. She spent her captive years at Zoo Aquarium de Madrid, arriving there on July 1, 1976, when she was four years old.

She lived at the Madrid zoo for fifteen years until her death in 1991. Her official studbook number is #647.
