About Abbey

Abbey is a female Western Lowland Gorilla living at Limbe Wildlife Centre. Born in the wild in Africa on June 4, 2026, she was rescued as an infant and brought into human care.

Both her parents were wild gorillas, making Abbey part of the important population of rescued Western Lowland Gorillas that conservation centers work to protect. Her early life in captivity began at Taiping Zoo in January 2002.

After spending over two years at Taiping Zoo, Abbey was transferred to the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in April 2004. She lived there for nearly four years before making her final move to Limbe Wildlife Centre in November 2007, where she has remained since.
